New York police: 22-Year-old Maine Woman Among 4 Bodies Found

One of four women found dumped along a deserted stretch of beach highway last month has been identified as that of a missing escort from Maine, and New York authorities said Wednesday they were close to identifying the other three bodies.
Officials said Wednesday the New York City medical examiner’s office, which is assisting in the Long Island probe, identified the remains as that of 22-year-old Megan Waterman. More >
New York TV Executive Accused of Beheading Wife to Go on Trial

The trial of a New York television executive accused of beheading his wife starts Tuesday.
Authorities learned about the incident in February 2009 when Muzzammil Hassan went to a police station in the Buffalo, New York, suburb of Orchard Park and told officers his wife was dead, police have said.
Hassan, who founded a TV network aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes, took officers to the network’s office where officers found the decapitated body of his wife, Aasiya Hassan.
Hassan has pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder in the case.
Opening arguments in the case are scheduled for Tuesday morning, CNN affiliate WIVB reported. The trial has been delayed many times, and Hassan has fired three defense attorneys before finding a suitable one, the affiliate reported. More >
Carmelo Anthony’s ‘Ultimate Dream’ to Play in New York

Here’s some hopeful news for New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets fans — and bad news for Denver Nuggets fans tracking the possible trade of Carmelo Anthony. The Native New Yorker says his “ultimate dream” is to play in the Big Apple.
Anthony and his new wife LaLa Vazquez are both from Brooklyn. The couple was married at a swanky event in Manhattan last year attended by the likes of LeBron James, Justin Timberlake and Kim Kardashian. More >
NY airports losing in J D Powers survey

Consumers gave some of the weakest scores to the area’s three main airports — John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia International — for everything from baggage handling to security checkpoints in J.D. Power & Associates’ North America Airport Satisfaction Study for 2010.
The three ranked low across the board as consumers complained that getting in and out of the airports was as much of a hassle as waiting for their bags.
But those facilities that ranked better could give thanks to new terminals and more convenient parking — and overall better attention to customers. More >
Walgreens buys New York drugstore chain

Walgreens Co. said yesterday it has agreed to buy the drugstore operator Duane Reade, a name synonymous with New York that cobbles together two Downtown Manhattan streets. The original store, dating back 50 years, was on Broadway between Duane and Reade streets.
Walgreens CEO Greg Wasson said the acquisition of Duane Reade “gives us a leadership position in the nation’s No. 1 drugstore market.”
The move would double the number of Walgreens-run stores in the borough to 18, and it would more than quadruple its stores in the New York City metropolitan area. More >
